Geosphere, Hydrosphere, and Atmosphere Interactive
Many Spheres5-ESS2-1. Develop a model using an example to describe ways the geosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, and/or atmosphere interact. [Clarification Statement: Examples could include the influence of the ocean on ecosystems, landform shape, and climate; the influence of the atmosphere on landforms and ecosystems through weather and climate; and the influence of mountain ranges on winds and clouds in the atmosphere. The geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere are each a system.] [Assessment Boundary: Assessment is limited to the interactions of two systems at a time.]
The geosphere is the solid and molten rock, soil, and sediments on the Earth.
The hydrosphere is all the water and ice on the Earth.
The atmosphere is all the air surrounding Earth.
The biosphere includes all life on the Earth.
Each of these systems interact and affect each other.
Seek: On Earth, what allows us to breathe and live?
Try: There are four main systems that support life on earth. Watch videos and take notes on the systems:

Expand: Earth’s systems interact with each other. Elicit some ways.

Make connections: What about in space? What systems will we need to live? Elicit the idea that we essentially need the same systems in space. The spaceship itself takes the place of the geosphere.
